Glen Spey stands in the town of Rothes, in the heart of Speyside. It dates from the late nineteenth century and today belongs to Diageo. For most of its life its whisky has gone into blends, above all J&B.
The spirit is light and gently nutty. The spirit stills are fitted with purifiers, which send the heavier vapours back for another pass and help keep the new make clean and delicate. It is a whisky that takes on cask character readily, so sherry, wine and port casks can change it a good deal.
Official bottlings are scarce. Diageo has released a 12 year old in its Flora and Fauna series and the occasional older bottling, such as a 21 Year Old. Most Glen Spey on the market comes from independent bottlers instead.
In our catalogue you will meet it from Gordon & MacPhail (Connoisseurs Choice), Douglas Laing (Old Malt Cask, Xtra Old Particular), Signatory Vintage, Cadenhead's, James Eadie, Duncan Taylor (Dimensions, The Octave) and Berry Bros. & Rudd, among others. These are often single casks at cask strength, which makes Glen Spey a good distillery to explore through different casks and ages.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
