The Glenlivet distillery stands at Minmore in the Livet glen, in the hills of Speyside. George Smith took out a licence in 1824, making it one of the first legal distilleries in the area after the law changed. The name became so famous that many other Speyside distilleries once added "Glenlivet" to their own. Today it is owned by Pernod Ricard through Chivas Brothers.
The spirit is unpeated, light and fruity, often with notes of pear, apple and flowers. It is one of the best-selling single malts in the world and a common first malt for many drinkers.
Buyers meet Founder's Reserve, The 12 Years, the 18 Year Old, Triple Cask Matured and Captain's Reserve, alongside older bottlings such as the 40 Year Old and stronger releases in the Cask Strength Collection and Single Cask Edition.
Glenlivet is widely bottled independently, with Gordon & MacPhail in particular releasing old vintages for many decades. Signatory Vintage, Douglas Laing, Hunter Laing, Berry Bros. & Rudd and That Boutique-y Whisky Company also appear in our catalogue. Some entries here, such as Braeval and Braes of Glenlivet, come from the nearby Braeval distillery, a separate distillery with the same owner.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
