Douglas Laing

Douglas Laing & Co was founded in Glasgow in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing. It is still run by the Laing family, and the business has worked for decades both as a blender and as an independent bottler of single malts and single grains.

The firm buys casks from distilleries across Scotland and selects them for single cask and small batch releases. In our catalogue you will find bottlings from Mortlach, Craigellachie, Tobermory, Tamdhu and Benrinnes, along with single grains from Invergordon and Cameronbridge.

The best known line is the Remarkable Regional Malts, a family of blended malts that each portrays a Scottish region, such as Scallywag for Speyside and Big Peat for Islay. These come with seasonal and limited editions, like the Scallywag Winter Edition finished in ice wine casks. Single cask and single malt releases appear under names such as Provenance and Old Malt Cask.

The company generally presents its whiskies without added colouring or chill filtration. In 2019 it also became a distiller, buying the small Strathearn distillery in Perthshire.
