Ardmore lies at Kennethmont in rural Aberdeenshire, beside the railway line that once carried its whisky south. It was founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher of William Teacher & Sons, and its malt has always been central to the Teacher's blend. Today it belongs to Suntory Global Spirits.
What sets Ardmore apart is peat. Unusually for the Highlands, it has kept making a peated spirit, giving a smoky malt that is drier and more earthy than the coastal smoke of Islay. Its stills were heated by coal until the early 2000s. The distillery also makes unpeated spirit, mainly for blending.
Official bottlings a buyer will meet include Legacy, a lighter entry point that mixes peated and unpeated malt, Traditional Peated, which uses smaller casks for part of its maturation, and aged releases such as the 10 and 19 Year Old.
Ardmore is very widely bottled independently, and in our catalogue the independent releases outnumber the official ones. Douglas Laing, Signatory Vintage, Gordon & MacPhail, Hunter Laing, Berry Bros. & Rudd, Càrn Mòr, The Vintage Malt Whisky Company, Malts of Scotland, Adelphi, Blackadder and Murray McDavid have all bottled it, often as single casks.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
