Tormore stands beside the main road through Speyside, between Grantown-on-Spey and Aberlour. It was built from 1958 for Schenley's Long John Distillers and was the first new distillery in the Highlands for decades. Its granite buildings, clock tower and formal grounds make it one of the most recognisable distilleries in Scotland.
Today it belongs to Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky arm of Pernod Ricard. For most of its life Tormore has gone into blends, so single malt bottlings were long rare. The spirit is usually described as light, clean and fruity, with a slightly nutty, spicy side.
The official range has included a 14 Year Old and a 16 Year Old, and older bottlings such as the 21 and 22 Year Old appear on the market. Tormore is not normally peated, so a bottling such as the 8 Year Old 2011 Strictly Limited (Peated) is an unusual exception.
Because so much of the spirit was made for blending, plenty of casks have reached independent bottlers. Buyers will find it from Gordon & MacPhail, Signatory Vintage (including the 100 Proof Edition), Douglas Laing, Hunter Laing (The First Editions), Duncan Taylor, That Boutique-y Whisky Company and Malts of Scotland, often as single casks at cask strength.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
