Cadenhead's began in Aberdeen in 1842 and is widely regarded as the oldest independent bottler in Scotland. Since 1972 it has belonged to J & A Mitchell & Co, the family firm behind Springbank, and it is run from Campbeltown. The company also keeps whisky shops, including one on Edinburgh's Royal Mile.

As a bottler, Cadenhead's buys casks of whisky from other distilleries and matures much of its stock in warehouses in Campbeltown. Its approach is known for being straightforward: whisky bottled without chill filtration and without added colouring, with the cask and the distillery left to speak for themselves.

The Original Collection is the range our catalogue lists most. It offers single malts from distilleries that rarely appear under their own name, such as Mannochmore, Glenallachie, Tormore, Benrinnes, Inchgower, Glen Elgin and Miltonduff, along with Ben Nevis from the western Highlands. These bottlings are reduced in strength rather than at full cask strength, which makes them an accessible way to try lesser-known Speyside spirit.

Cadenhead's also bottles at cask strength in its other ranges, so buyers comparing prices should check the strength and cask details on each label.
