Loch Lomond Distillery stands in Alexandria, at the southern end of Loch Lomond, and was built in the mid 1960s. It is now run by the Loch Lomond Group, which also owns Glen Scotia in Campbeltown.
What sets it apart is flexibility. Alongside traditional pot stills it uses stills with rectifying columns in the neck, which let it make spirits from light and fruity to heavy and peated. It also produces grain whisky, including grain made from malted barley in a column still, sold in releases such as Grainstorm. That is why the distillery has so many names: Inchmurrin, Inchmoan, Croftengea, Old Rhosdhu, Craiglodge and Inchfad are all different styles made here.
The official range covers the core Loch Lomond bottlings such as the 10 Year Old and older 25 and 30 Year Old expressions, Steam & Fire, and Inchmurrin and Inchmoan releases. The distillery is a partner of The Open golf championship, which explains The Open Special Edition and The Open Course Collection.
Independent bottlers buy its casks too, often under the alternative names. Look for Croftengea and Inchmurrin single casks from Hunter Laing, Douglas Laing, Murray McDavid, A.D. Rattray, The Vintage Malt Whisky Company, That Boutique-y Whisky Company and Master of Malt.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
