Bowmore sits on the shore of Loch Indaal in Islay's main village and dates from 1779, making it the oldest licensed distillery on the island. Its No. 1 Vaults warehouse lies right by the sea wall. Since the 1990s it has been owned by Suntory, now Suntory Global Spirits.
Bowmore is one of the few Scottish distilleries that still malts part of its own barley on traditional malting floors, dried over Islay peat. Its smoke is moderate by Islay standards, sitting between the gentle and the heavily peated malts of the island, and older Bowmores are prized for their tropical fruit character.
The core official range includes the 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old, with travel retail releases such as the 10 Year Old Dark & Intense and 15 Year Old Golden & Elegant. Older no-age-statement bottlings such as Legend still turn up on the secondary market.
Independent bottlings are common. Douglas Laing (Old Malt Cask), Hunter Laing (First Editions), Signatory Vintage, That Boutique-y Whisky Company, The Character of Islay Whisky Company and others all release Bowmore casks.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
