Tamnavulin stands in the Livet valley in Speyside, not far from Tomnavoulin village. Its name is usually translated from Gaelic as "mill on the hill". It was built in 1966 by Invergordon Distillers and is now part of Whyte & Mackay.
The distillery was mothballed in the mid-1990s and brought back into production in 2007. For many years most of its spirit went into blends, and single malt bottlings only became a regular sight more recently.
The house style is light, fruity and gently sweet, without peat. The official range builds on the Double Cask, which spends a final period in sherry casks, alongside a Sherry Cask release and a series of wine finishes such as the Port Cask Edition and Sauvignon Blanc Cask Edition.
Tamnavulin is also a regular among independent bottlers. Buyers will meet it in Douglas Laing's Old Malt Cask, Gordon & MacPhail's Connoisseurs Choice, Hunter Laing's First Editions, and in releases from Càrn Mòr, A.D. Rattray, James Eadie and That Boutique-y Whisky Company. These older single casks often show a different side of the spirit from the cask-finished official bottles.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
