St George's Distillery, home of The English Whisky Co., was founded in 2006 by the Nelstrop family near Thetford in Norfolk. It was among the first distilleries to make whisky in England for about a century, and it helped start the English whisky revival.
The distillery makes single malt from barley in copper pot stills. It distils both unpeated and peated spirit, and it matures in a range of casks, from bourbon barrels to rum and wine casks.
The core range is labelled simply The English, with versions such as Double Cask and Rum Cask. Over the years it has also released age statements, including 5, 9, 10 and 12 year olds, and smoky bottlings such as the Heavily Peated single casks.
Independent bottlings exist too, from That Boutique-y Whisky Company, Master of Malt and smaller bottlers. Note that our data also groups bottles from other English distilleries, such as Cotswolds, White Peak, Spirit of Yorkshire and West Midlands, under this heading; those are made at their own distilleries, not in Norfolk.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
