Bladnoch

Bladnoch sits on the River Bladnoch near Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway, the most southerly distillery in Scotland. It was founded in 1817 by the McClelland brothers and has had a long run of owners and closures since.

It was mothballed in 1993 under United Distillers, whose Flora and Fauna 10 Year Old is a well-known bottling from that era. Raymond Armstrong bought it and restarted distilling in 2000, and after a spell in administration it was acquired in 2015 by Australian businessman David Prior, who rebuilt and relaunched the distillery.

The spirit is unpeated and in the soft, grassy and fruity Lowland style. The current core range includes Vinaya, Samsara and Liora, with older Talia releases finished or matured in port and red wine casks, plus limited editions such as the Master Distiller's Waterfall series. Pure Scot is a related blended malt brand.

Independent bottlings are fairly common, from Gordon & MacPhail, Douglas Laing, Hunter Laing, Berry Bros. & Rudd, Duncan Taylor, Master of Malt and That Boutique-y Whisky Company, many of them from older vintages such as 1990 and 1992.
