Dufftown distillery was founded in the 1890s in the town that gave it its name, at the heart of Speyside. It was owned for many years by Arthur Bell & Sons and is now part of Diageo. Older bottlings carry the name Dufftown-Glenlivet, from the time when many Speyside distilleries added Glenlivet to their names.
It is one of Diageo's larger malt distilleries, and much of its spirit has gone into blends, especially Bell's. The house style is malty, nutty and gently fruity, a sturdy Speyside malt rather than a delicate one.
Officially, Dufftown is sold today as The Singleton of Dufftown, with age-stated bottlings and travel retail releases such as Spey Cascade. Collectors also look for older official bottles, including the Dufftown-Glenlivet 8 and 12 Year Olds from the 1960s and 1980s and the Centenary 20 Year Old.
Dufftown is regularly bottled by independent bottlers.
