Rebel is an American whiskey brand from Kentucky, sold for decades as Rebel Yell and more recently simply as Rebel. Despite what the name of this page might suggest, it is not a Scottish or Islay whisky. The brand belongs to Lux Row Distillers in Bardstown, part of the Luxco group, which is owned by MGP Ingredients.
The bourbons are wheated, meaning wheat rather than rye is the secondary grain in the mash bill alongside corn. That tends to give a softer, rounder and sweeter profile. Over the years the whiskey has been distilled under contract at other Kentucky distilleries, and Lux Row has since built its own distillery.
The range a buyer meets runs from the standard Kentucky Straight Bourbon and the 100 Proof bottling to the Small Batch Reserve and a 10 Years Old Single Barrel. There are finished versions in tawny port, French oak, cognac and oloroso sherry casks, a Straight Rye Whiskey, and flavoured whiskey drinks such as Honey and Ginger.
