Lux Row Rebel 100 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Oloroso Sherry Casks

Rebel is one of the older names in wheated bourbon. For many years the brand was called Rebel Yell, and it was renamed simply Rebel in 2020. It belongs to Lux Row Distillers, the Kentucky arm of the Luxco group, which opened its distillery in Bardstown in 2018. Luxco itself is now part of MGP Ingredients.

The bourbon uses wheat rather than rye as its secondary grain, which tends to give a softer, rounder whiskey with notes of caramel, bread and honey rather than spice. Much of the whiskey sold under the name over the years was distilled under contract in Kentucky before Lux Row had its own stills, so the label is best read as a brand rather than a single-distillery whiskey.

The core Kentucky Straight Bourbon is the everyday bottle, with Small Batch Reserve a step up. Rebel 100 is bottled at 100 proof, and the Oloroso Sherry Casks edition takes that higher-strength bourbon into sherry-seasoned casks. The Bourbon Tawny Port Barrel Finish follows the same idea with port casks.

For rye drinkers there is Rebel Straight Rye Whiskey, also seen in our catalogue as Yell Straight Rye Whiskey from the older naming. These are mostly affordable bottles and a good way into wheated bourbon.
