Redbreast dates back to 1912, when the wine and spirits merchant Gilbey's began bottling whiskey from the Jameson distillery in Dublin under this name. Today it belongs to Irish Distillers, part of Pernod Ricard, and is distilled and bottled at Midleton Distillery in County Cork.
Redbreast is a single pot still whiskey, a traditional Irish style made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and triple distilled in copper pot stills. The unmalted barley gives a creamy, oily texture and a touch of spice. Maturation in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks adds the dried fruit, nut and Christmas cake notes the brand is known for.
The core range starts with the 12 year old, with the 12 Years Cask Strength released in batches, followed by the 18 Years and 21 Year Old. Special editions explore different casks, such as the Lustau Edition finished in sherry casks, the Cuatro Barriles Edition, the Moscatel Wine Cask Edition and the Missouri Oak Edition.
Collectors will also meet rare single casks and retailer exclusives, including older sherry and port cask bottlings for The Whisky Exchange.
