About Walsh

Walsh Whiskey was started in County Carlow by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh in 1999, at a time when Ireland had only a handful of whiskey producers. The couple built their business around their own blends and bottlings rather than a distillery of their own.
The whiskey in The Irishman and Writers Tears is sourced from other Irish distilleries and then blended, finished and bottled to Walsh's recipes. A distillery was later built at Royal Oak in Carlow in partnership with an Italian drinks group, but the two businesses went separate ways, and the brands buyers know remain Walsh's.
Writers Tears is best known as a blend of single pot still and single malt whiskey, with a gentle, honeyed style. Writers Tears Red Head is a single malt matured in sherry casks, and regular Cask Strength releases are bottled by year, such as 2019 and 2021.
The Irishman range centres on The Irishman Single Malt, with cask finishes such as Marsala and limited releases including a 12 Year Old and yearly Cask Strength editions.
