About Writers Tears

Walsh Whiskey

Writers' Tears is an Irish whiskey brand created by Walsh Whiskey, the company founded by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh. The name nods to Ireland's literary tradition and the idea that whiskey has long kept writers company, a theme carried through in releases such as the Ulysses Limited Edition.

Walsh Whiskey does not distil Writers' Tears itself; the whiskey is sourced from an established Irish distillery and blended and bottled by the brand. The flagship Copper Pot combines single pot still whiskey, made from malted and unmalted barley, with single malt, both triple distilled in copper pot stills and aged in bourbon barrels. The result is light, fruity and gently spicy.

Around the core sit several variations. Red Head is a single malt finished in sherry casks, Double Oak combines whiskey from American oak and French oak casks, and the Single Pot Still release focuses on that style alone. Annual Cask Strength editions, such as 2022 and 2023, appear in limited quantities.

The brand also experiments with finishes, including Japanese cask, Marsala cask and Tequila cask finishes. These tend to be limited runs, so prices can vary between shops.
