Glenlochy stood in Fort William, at the foot of Ben Nevis, and was built at the very end of the nineteenth century. It spent most of its life as a small, workaday distillery producing malt for blending.
The distillery was closed in 1983, one of many malt distilleries shut during the industry downturn of the early 1980s. Production never resumed, and much of the site has since been redeveloped, so the stock left in casks and bottles is all that remains.
As a lost distillery, Glenlochy is now mostly met through independent bottlers. Gordon & MacPhail released it in the Connoisseurs Choice range, Signatory Vintage in its Cask Strength Collection, and other bottlers such as Cadenhead's and the Old Malt Cask series have offered single casks from vintages like 1952, 1977, 1979 and 1980.
Bottles are scarce and often very old, so prices reflect their rarity. Expect older, mature Highland malt, and check the vintage, age and strength of each release, as these differ from cask to cask.
