Slyrs sits in the Bavarian Alps near the Schliersee lake in southern Germany. It began distilling in 1999, when German malt whisky was still a rarity, and grew out of a Bavarian tradition of fruit and grain spirits.
The distillery works with malted barley and uses copper pot stills, and much of its spirit is matured in new, charred American white oak casks. This gives a sweet, vanilla-led style that sets it apart from many Scotch malts. The mountain climate, with cold winters and warm summers, plays a part in how the casks mature.
The core Slyrs Single Malt is joined by a series of finishes, including the Pedro Ximénez, Amontillado, Port and Sauternes casks. The Mountain Edition and a Rye are also part of the range, alongside young single casks such as the Slyrs 3 Year Old 2013 and 6 Year Old 2010.
Slyrs is mostly bottled by the distillery itself, but casks do reach independent bottlers. In our catalogue you will find releases from Master of Malt and That Boutique-y Whisky Company, as well as special bottlings for retailers.
