Michter's takes its name from a historic Pennsylvania distillery that closed in the late 1980s. The name was revived in the 1990s by Chatham Imports, and the modern brand is based in Louisville, Kentucky.
In its early years the new Michter's bottled whiskey sourced from other Kentucky distilleries. It has since built its own distillery in the Shively area of Louisville, along with a smaller distillery in downtown Louisville, and now produces its own spirit while maturing and bottling in Kentucky.
The core US*1 range covers Small Batch Bourbon, Single Barrel Straight Rye, Sour Mash and an Unblended American Whiskey. Each year Michter's adds limited releases, such as the Toasted Barrel Finish bourbon and rye and Barrel Strength bottlings, which tend to sell out quickly and attract collectors.
Two special names nod to the Pennsylvania past: Bomberger's Declaration and Shenk's Homestead, both annual releases named after historic distilleries linked to the original Michter's. In our catalogue these appear by release year, so it is worth comparing vintages when buying.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
