Ladyburn was built by William Grant & Sons in 1966 within its Girvan grain distillery complex on the Ayrshire coast. The idea was to produce malt whisky on the same site as the company's grain spirit.
The distillery had a short life. It stopped producing in 1975 and was dismantled soon after, so all Ladyburn whisky comes from barely a decade of distillation. That makes surviving casks scarce and old.
William Grant & Sons has released Ladyburn under its own name, including vintage single casks and the Private Cask Collection. Independent bottlers often may not use the distillery name, so many of their releases appear as Rare Ayrshire, for example Signatory Vintage in its Cask Strength Collection and anniversary bottlings. Blackadder and Forgotten Gems have also bottled it.
Expect very old Lowland malt, usually from single casks at 34 to 44 years of age. Prices are those of a lost distillery, and each cask differs, so compare strength and vintage carefully.
