Stokerij de Molenberg

Stokerij de Molenberg is the whisky distillery of Brouwerij Het Anker, the historic brewery in Mechelen known for its Gouden Carolus beers. The distillery sits on the Molenberg estate in Blaasveld, in the Belgian province of Antwerp, run by the brewing family behind Het Anker.

The link with the brewery shapes the spirit. The wash is brewed in the style of the house's Gouden Carolus Tripel, without hops, and then distilled into new make, which gives the whisky a malty, fruity character that many drinkers connect with Belgian beer.

Most bottles reach buyers as Gouden Carolus Single Malt, with cask variations such as Port, Sherry, Madeira Oak, Palomino Oloroso Cask Finish and Pedro. The distillery also marks its birthdays with yearly anniversary releases, including the 6th Anniversary Esmeralda, 9th Anniversary Folle Blanche, 10th Anniversary Aurora and 12th Anniversary Giverny, each built around a different cask or theme.

You will also see bottlings under the Molenberg name. Releases are small, and the anniversary editions tend to be sought after by collectors of Belgian whisky.
