John Distilleries

John Distilleries is an Indian spirits company founded by Paul P. John and based in Bengaluru. It is a large producer of Indian whisky, including the popular Original Choice brand, and since the 2010s it has gained an international following for its single malts sold under the Paul John name.

The malt whisky is made at the company's distillery in Goa, on India's west coast, using Indian barley and copper pot stills. Goa's heat and humidity make casks mature much faster than in Scotland, with more spirit lost to evaporation each year, so the whiskies are rich and oak-driven at relatively young ages. Peated versions are made with peated barley as well as unpeated ones.

The Paul John range includes the core Brilliance, Edited and Bold expressions, cask strength single cask bottlings, and special releases. Some of the range names currently linked to this page in our catalogue, such as Johnnie Walker Black Label and Blue Label editions, belong to other producers and are not made here, so check each bottle's label when comparing prices.
