Glasgow 1770 is made by The Glasgow Distillery Company, which began distilling in the city in the mid-2010s. The name looks back to 1770, the year an earlier whisky distillery was founded in Glasgow, long since gone.
The distillery makes several styles of spirit: an unpeated malt, a peated malt and lightly peated versions. Its core bottlings appear as Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Original and Glasgow 1770 Peated, with cask strength batches of both.
The Small Batch Series is where the distillery plays with casks: Cognac, Syrah, Constantia wine, Passito di Caluso dessert wine, sherry and ruby port have all been used. These are young whiskies, often five to seven years old, so the cask has a clear say in the flavour.
As a young distillery, its whisky is bottled almost entirely by the distillery itself, and independent bottlings are uncommon.
