Tullamore D.E.W. comes from the town of Tullamore in County Offaly, in the Irish midlands, where a distillery was founded in 1829. The name takes the initials of Daniel E. Williams, who managed the distillery and built up the brand, which also gave rise to the slogan "Give every man his Dew".
The original Tullamore distillery closed in the mid-twentieth century, and for decades the whiskey was produced elsewhere in Ireland. William Grant & Sons bought the brand in 2010 and opened a new distillery on the edge of Tullamore in 2014, bringing production back to the town.
The classic Tullamore D.E.W. is a triple-distilled blend of three types of Irish whiskey: pot still, malt and grain. It is light, smooth and easygoing, and it is one of the most widely sold Irish whiskeys in the world.
Beyond the standard 40% bottling, buyers will meet the 12 Year Old, the 14 and 18 Year Old single malts, and a series of cask finishes such as the Cider Cask Finish, the XO Caribbean Rum Cask Finish and Phoenix. Tullamore D.E.W. Honey is a sweeter, honey-flavoured spirit drink, and older collectables such as the 1970s ceramic jug also turn up.
