Ardnamurchan distillery stands at Glenbeg on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands. It was built by the independent bottler Adelphi and began distilling in 2014, one of the most westerly distilleries on the British mainland.
The distillery makes both peated and unpeated spirit and often marries the two. Its energy comes largely from local renewable sources, including a biomass boiler fuelled by local wood chips and water from the nearby river. The house style is coastal and lightly smoky, with a fresh, fruity character from the unpeated side.
Official releases carry the AD/ name, often with a date code, such as AD/10, the Cask Strength releases, single casks for shops and distributors, and a Heritage Barley Release made from Golden Promise. Beyond the official range, Ardnamurchan is also bottled by independent bottlers, among them Cadenhead, North Star Spirits, Berry Bros. & Rudd, James Eadie, Decadent Drinks and the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, usually as young single casks.
