Millstone Whisky

Millstone whisky is made by Zuidam Distillers, a family company in Baarle-Nassau in the south of the Netherlands, close to the Belgian border. The distillery was started by Fred van Zuidam and is run by the family, with Patrick van Zuidam leading production. Besides whisky it makes genever, gin and liqueurs.

The name refers to the windmills that grind much of the grain. Spirit is distilled in copper pot stills and matured in a range of casks, notably American oak, sherry casks including Pedro Ximénez, and casks for peated malt, which shows in the ranges.

Buyers meet single malts such as the 10 Year Old American Oak, Peated American Oak and PX Peated, along with older vintages and single casks. Rye is a speciality: the 100 Rye is made from rye and bottled at 100 proof, and there are aged rye releases such as the 10 year old Founders Reserve. Retailer exclusives, for example for The Whisky Exchange, appear regularly.

Most Millstone is bottled by the distillery itself, but casks have also gone to independent bottlers such as That Boutique-y Whisky Company.
