Bulleit

Bulleit was launched by Tom Bulleit in Kentucky in 1987 and is now owned by Diageo. It grew into one of the best known American whiskey brands, recognisable by its old-style bottle with raised lettering.

For most of its history Bulleit did not distill its own whiskey. The bourbon was made under contract in Kentucky, and the rye came from the large distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana now known as MGP. In 2017 Diageo opened the Bulleit Distilling Co. in Shelbyville, Kentucky, which now produces whiskey for the brand.

The house style leans on rye. The Frontier Bourbon uses a high share of rye in its mash bill, which gives a spicier, drier bourbon than many wheated or low-rye styles. The Rye is made from a mash of around 95% rye, with a bold, peppery character.
