The Glasgow Distillery Company was set up in the 2010s and began distilling in Hillington, on the edge of Glasgow. It was among the first new malt distilleries in the city for many decades. The name of its whisky, 1770, recalls the year an early Glasgow distillery was founded.
The distillery makes several styles of spirit rather than one house style. There is an unpeated single malt, a peated version, and a triple distilled spirit, which is a Lowland tradition and gives a lighter, softer whisky. The team also experiments widely with cask types, including port, Marsala and other wine casks.
Buyers will meet the core Glasgow 1770 Peated Single Malt and earlier releases such as Release No. 1 Peated and Glasgow 1770 Triple Distilled #1. Cask strength batches appear as Glasgow 1770 Original Cask Strength and Glasgow 1770 Peated Cask Strength, and cask finishes include the Ruby Port Cask Finish, the Marsala Wine Cask, the Constantia Wine Cask and the Small Batch Series.
Most bottles are official releases, but our catalogue also lists independent bottlings from The Single Cask and Keeble Cask Company, which are worth a look for single casks of this young distillery.
