The Quiet Man

The Quiet Man comes from Derry in Northern Ireland and was created by Ciaran Mulgrew through his drinks company, Niche Drinks. The name honours his father, John Mulgrew, a bartender remembered as a quiet man who listened more than he spoke.

The whiskey has been made from spirit distilled elsewhere in Ireland and then bottled under the brand, rather than at a distillery of its own. The brand has spoken of plans for its own distillery in Derry. Buyers should treat the label as a brand rather than a single distillery.

The style is gentle and approachable Irish whiskey. The blend, often seen as the Yellow Label, is the everyday entry point. The 8 Year Old Irish Single Malt is the core malt, matured in bourbon casks.

For something richer, there are 12 year old single malts finished in other casks, such as the 12 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish and the 12 Years Old Bordeaux Cask Finish. These add dried fruit or red wine notes to the soft Irish malt character.
