Whyte & Mackay

Whyte & Mackay was founded in Glasgow in 1882 by James Whyte and Charles Mackay, who began as whisky merchants and blenders. The company grew into one of the larger Scotch whisky groups and today belongs to Emperador of the Philippines.

The blend is known for its rounded, sweet and fruity style. Its blenders give the malt and grain whiskies extra time together in sherry casks after blending, a process the company describes as marrying, which adds depth and a soft sherry note.

Whyte & Mackay is a brand, not a distillery. The same group owns the Dalmore, Fettercairn and Tamnavulin distilleries, whose malts sit at the heart of its blends, and Tullibardine also belonged to the company in the past. The whisky is blended and bottled in Scotland.

Most buyers will meet the Special blend, the everyday bottling, and the 12 Year Old Premium Reserve. Older bottlings include the 19 Year Old, the 30 Year Old Rare Reserve, the 25 Year Old Millennium Blend and the Stillman's Dram series at 25 and 26 years old, which are now mostly found on the secondary market.
