Jameson goes back to 1780, when John Jameson took over the Bow Street distillery in Dublin. Whiskey was made there until the 1970s, when production moved to the new Midleton distillery in County Cork. Bow Street is now a visitor centre, and the brand is owned by Irish Distillers, part of Pernod Ricard.
The standard Jameson is a blend of single pot still whiskey, made from malted and unmalted barley, and grain whiskey, triple distilled in the Irish way. The style is light, smooth and gently spicy, which has made it a popular first whiskey for many drinkers.
The core range starts with Jameson itself, followed by Black Barrel, matured partly in heavily charred bourbon barrels, and older or richer bottlings such as Gold Reserve, the 18 Year Old releases and Triple Triple. A Single Pot Still edition shows the classic Irish pot still style on its own.
The Caskmates series finishes the whiskey in barrels that held stout or IPA beer, and Cold Brew adds coffee flavour. Older bottlings, such as those from the 1990s, and gift packs of miniatures also turn up in our catalogue.
