Barrell Craft Spirits was founded in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2013 by Joe Beatrice. It does not build its reputation on its own distilling. Instead it buys barrels of whiskey made at distilleries in several states and blends them into numbered batches.
The company is known for bottling at cask strength, so most releases are well above standard bottling strength, and the exact strength changes from batch to batch. Each batch is a different blend, which makes the batch number on the label important when comparing bottles.
The ranges in our catalogue include the numbered Barrell Bourbon and Barrell Rye batches, Seagrass Rye (a rye finished in casks such as rum and Madeira), Dovetail (a whiskey finished in casks including rum and port), and Vantage, a bourbon finished in different kinds of oak. The Gray Label and Gold Label releases are older, limited versions of these lines, and the Cask Finish Series covers one-off experiments. The 5 Year Old Foundation bourbon is a more affordable addition to the range.
