Jura distillery stands in Craighouse, the island's only village, on the remote Isle of Jura just off Islay. Distilling here goes back to 1810, but the present distillery was rebuilt in the 1960s and began producing again in 1963. It is owned by Whyte & Mackay.

The distillery has some of the tallest stills in Scotland, which help give a light, clean spirit. Unlike its peaty Islay neighbours, Jura mostly makes unpeated whisky, with a share of peated spirit for some releases. The style tends to be sweet and malty, with the casks, often bourbon and sherry, playing a large role.

Official bottlings carry the Jura name. Buyers will meet the 12 Year Old and older ages like the 20 and 30 Year Old, Seven Wood with its mix of oak types, Superstition with a touch of peat, The Loch, the Tastival festival editions, Cask Edition and vintage bottlings such as 1989 and 1998.

Jura is also bottled regularly by independent bottlers, including Signatory Vintage, WM Cadenhead, Douglas Laing, Hunter Laing, Adelphi and That Boutique-y Whisky Company. These single casks and small batches, often at cask strength, show the spirit in a different light from the official range.
