Reservoir Distillery is a small craft distillery in Richmond, Virginia. It was founded in 2008 and is often counted among the early wave of American craft whiskey makers.
Its best-known idea is simple: each core whiskey is made from a single grain. Reservoir Bourbon is made from 100% corn, Reservoir Rye from 100% rye and Reservoir Wheat from 100% wheat. The whiskeys are matured in new charred oak, and the distillery has used small barrels for much of its stock.
Alongside the core range, a buyer meets the Mashup series, made with Richmond breweries such as Ardent (an IPA) and Hardywood (a gingerbread stout), and the related Hunter & Scott label. That Boutique-y Whisky Company has also bottled young Reservoir bourbon, corn and wheat spirit, so independent releases do exist, though most bottles are official.
