Tyrconnell is an old Irish whiskey name, once used by the Watt family distillery in Derry and named after a racehorse. The brand was revived by Cooley distillery in County Louth, which was later bought by Beam, now part of Suntory Global Spirits.
The whiskey is a single malt made at Cooley, distilled twice in pot stills and unpeated. That gives a light, fruity and soft style, different from the triple distilled pot still whiskeys many people link with Ireland.
The entry point is the Tyrconnell Single Malt, matured in ex-bourbon casks. The best-known bottlings are the cask finishes: the 10 Year Old Port Cask Finish, the 10 Year Old Madeira Cask Finish and the Sherry Cask. Older releases include the 15 Year Old, the 16 Year Old and the 16 Year Old Oloroso & Moscatel Cask Finish.
