Carsebridge was a grain whisky distillery in Alloa, on the north side of the Forth in central Scotland. It was one of the larger grain distilleries of its day and became part of the Distillers Company Limited, the group that later grew into Diageo.
Like other grain distilleries, Carsebridge made its spirit mainly from cereals other than malted barley, distilled in continuous column stills. The result was a light spirit made chiefly for blending. Long years in oak casks give old Carsebridge grain its typical soft notes of vanilla, toffee, coconut and polished wood.
The distillery closed in 1983 and the site was later cleared, so no new Carsebridge will ever be made. Official bottlings are very rare, and nearly everything a buyer sees comes from independent bottlers who hold the remaining casks.
In our catalogue these include Douglas Laing and Hunter Laing, with ranges such as Xtra Old Particular, Old Particular, The Sovereign and The Clan Denny, as well as Signatory Vintage, Duncan Taylor, That Boutique-y Whisky Company, Master of Malt, Keeble Cask Company and Whisky Souls. Most bottlings are single casks aged 30 to more than 50 years, distilled in the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s.
