Langatun takes its name from the old name of Langenthal, a town in the Swiss canton of Bern. The distillery started making whisky in 2007 and is part of a small but growing Swiss whisky scene.
The house style is built on two main single malts. Old Deer Classic is the unpeated whisky, while Old Bear Smoky uses smoked malt for a fuller, smokier profile. Old Wolf is a further single malt in the line-up.
Besides the core bottlings, Langatun releases age statements such as the 6 Year Old, numbered batches of its 5 Year Old, and cask finishes, for example in Rioja and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Special editions like the Winter Wedding and the Cigar Malt show up as well.
Most Langatun whisky is bottled by the distillery itself, but independent bottlers such as That Boutique-y Whisky Company and Master of Malt have also released casks from it, which gives buyers another way to try the spirit.
