The Glasgow Distillery Co. is a modern independent distillery in Hillington, on the edge of Glasgow. Its name and its 1770 whisky brand recall an earlier Glasgow Distillery Company from the eighteenth century, reviving a long tradition of whisky making in the city.
The distillery produces several styles of spirit: unpeated, peated and triple distilled single malt. This lets it build a wide family of releases from one site, and labels usually say clearly which style is in the bottle.
The main range is Glasgow 1770. Alongside the Bourbon Cask Matured single malt and the Original Cask Strength batches, buyers will find many cask finishes, including Ruby Port, White Port, Madeira, Marsala, Amarone, Tokaji, Cognac and Tequila casks, as well as the Triple Distilled releases. Many are limited batches, so batch numbers are worth noting.
The company also bottles Malt Riot. As a young distillery it bottles its own whisky, and independent bottlings of its spirit are still uncommon.
