Dalmunach stands near Carron in Speyside, on the site of the former Imperial distillery. Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard, built it there, and it began production in 2015. That makes it one of the newest distilleries in the region.
Dalmunach is a large distillery with several pairs of copper pot stills, and the still shape follows that of the old Imperial stills. Most of its spirit goes into Chivas Brothers' blends. As single malt it tends to show a fruity, light Speyside character.
Official single malt has been scarce. It has appeared mainly as distillery-only bottlings such as the Distillery Reserve Collection single casks, and later in small batch releases. Because the whisky is young, most bottles are between four and eight years old.
Independent bottlers have taken up Dalmunach readily. Releases come from Duncan Taylor (including The Octave), The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. (The Cooper's Choice), Càrn Mòr (Strictly Limited), Master of Malt, Dràm Mòr, Na Bràithrean, Edinburgh Whisky and James Eadie. There are also retailer exclusives such as the Wulver bottling for The Whisky Exchange.
