Canadian Club was created by Hiram Walker, an American businessman who set up a distillery on the Canadian side of the Detroit River in 1858. The town that grew around it, Walkerville, is now part of Windsor, Ontario. The whisky became one of the best-known Canadian brands, especially in the United States.

The brand is now owned by Suntory's spirits business, while the Hiram Walker distillery in Windsor, which still produces the whisky, belongs to Pernod Ricard. Our catalogue lists this distillery under Islay, which is a data error: this is an Ontario whisky.

The house style is light and mellow. Canadian Club is known for blending its whiskies young and then ageing the blend together in barrel, rather than marrying separately aged whiskies at the end. The standard bottling is often used in mixed drinks, while older expressions show more oak and spice.

In our catalogue you will find the standard Canadian Club, older age statements such as the 12 Years and Reserve 9 Year Old, the Invitation Series 15 Year Old Sherry Cask, and older bottlings like a 1980s Classic 12 Year Old and a 1984 6 Year Old. Crown Royal also appears under this entry in our data, but it is a separate brand, owned by Diageo and made at its own distillery in Gimli, Manitoba.
