Cameronbridge stands near Windygates in Fife and was founded in 1824 by John Haig, of the well-known whisky family. It was one of the early sites of column distillation in Scotland, and it is now owned by Diageo. It is one of the largest distilleries in the country.
The distillery makes grain whisky in continuous column stills, the backbone of Diageo blends such as Johnnie Walker. The site also produces neutral spirit used for gins and vodkas. Young Cameronbridge grain is light and clean, and with long maturation it picks up sweet notes of vanilla, cream and coconut from the oak.
The official single grain from Cameronbridge is sold as Haig Club, and the distillery name itself appears mostly on independent bottlings. In our catalogue you will find The Cooper's Choice and Cask Strength Collection from The Vintage Malt Whisky Co., Old Particular from Douglas Laing, and bottlings from Signatory Vintage, Duncan Taylor, Hunter Laing, The House of MacDuff, Master of Malt and That Boutique-y Whisky Company.
Many of these are single casks distilled in the 1980s and 1990s, bottled at 24 to 38 years old. Like other old grain whiskies, they can offer considerable age for the money.
