Wolfburn

Wolfburn sits on the edge of Thurso in Caithness, close to the north coast of the Scottish mainland. The name comes from an earlier Wolfburn distillery that worked in the town in the nineteenth century and later disappeared. The present distillery was built near the old site and began distilling in 2013.

The distillery draws its water from the Wolf Burn, the stream that gave it its name. Most of its spirit is made from unpeated malt, giving a light, clean and fruity house style, while a lightly peated spirit is made for some releases. Maturation leans on smaller casks such as quarter casks alongside ex-bourbon and sherry casks.

The official core includes Northland, Aurora Sherry Oak and Morven, the lightly peated expression. Alongside these come sherry-led bottlings such as the 10 Years Old Sherry Cask, finishes like the Manzanilla Cask Finish, cask strength releases such as the 7 Year Old Cask Strength 2022 Release, and seasonal or limited editions including First Footing, Let It Snow 2025 and The Kylver series.

Most Wolfburn on the market is bottled by the distillery itself. Independent bottlings are uncommon, though bottlers such as Dramfool have released casks, so a buyer may occasionally meet Wolfburn under another label.
