Glengoyne sits at the foot of Dumgoyne hill, north of Glasgow, right on the Highland Line: the distillery is in the Highlands while its warehouses across the road lie in the Lowlands. It has been distilling since 1833 and has been owned by the independent Scottish company Ian Macleod Distillers since 2003.
The distillery uses unpeated barley and is known for running its stills very slowly, which gives a soft, fruity spirit. Much of its whisky matures in sherry-seasoned oak, and the house style leans towards dried fruit, toffee and apple.
The official core range is age-stated: the 10 Year Old, 12, 15, 18, 21 and 25 Year Old, with older labels from before the 2013 repackaging still found on the secondary market. Alongside these come the Cask Strength batches, vintage bottlings and limited releases such as the 25 years 2022 Limited Release.
Glengoyne also appears from independent bottlers, including Douglas Laing, Hunter Laing, Langside, Berry Bros. & Rudd and That Boutique-y Whisky Company, as well as small samples from Drinks by the Dram and Master of Malt.
