Macaloney's is the whisky of Macaloney's Caledonian Distillery on Vancouver Island, near Victoria in British Columbia. It was founded by Graeme Macaloney, a Scottish-born scientist living in Canada, who set out to make malt whisky in the Scottish manner on the Canadian west coast.
The distillery makes single malt from malted barley in copper pot stills, and matures it on site. Releases tend to be small batches or single casks, often named in Gaelic, and they show the influence of different cask types such as ex-bourbon barrels and red wine barriques.
Buyers will meet named Canadian Single Malt releases such as An Loy, Cath Na Haven, Kildara, Killeigh, Na Braiche, Siol Dugall and An Aba. There are also single cask Caledonian bottlings, for example cask 49 from an Invermallie red wine barrique and cask 67 from an Invermallie ex-bourbon cask.
