Bivrost is made by Aurora Spirit at a distillery in Lyngen, in the far north of Norway, well above the Arctic Circle. The distillery sits among mountains and fjords and presents its whisky as Arctic single malt. The name refers to the rainbow bridge of Norse myth.
The distillery is young, so its whiskies are released at modest ages. The makers point to the cold northern climate and local surroundings, including stored casks in the region, as part of the character of the spirit.
The main series follows the nine worlds of Norse mythology. Buyers will meet releases such as Niflheim, Muspelheim, Jotunheim, Midgard, Helheim, Alfheim, Asgard, Vanaheim and Nidavellir, each a limited bottling with its own cask style. Yggdrasil, named after the world tree, is a later release.
These are small, limited editions, so availability and prices vary between bottlings. Bivrost is bottled by the distillery itself, and independent bottlings are rare.
