Spirit of Hven is a distillery on the small island of Ven in the Øresund, the strait between Sweden and Denmark. It began distilling in the late 2000s and is one of the pioneers of Swedish whisky.
The island is famous as the home of the astronomer Tycho Brahe, whose observatory stood there, and the distillery leans on that history. Tycho's Star and Urania, named after his observatory Uraniborg, are tributes to him.
The best known range is Seven Stars, a series of single malts each named after a star of the Big Dipper: No.1 Dubhe, No.2 Merak, No.3 Phecda, No.4 Megrez, No.5 Alioth, No.6:1 Mizar and No.7 Alkaid. Each release has its own recipe of peat and casks, so they differ from one another.
Beyond single malt, the distillery makes MerCurious Corn Whisky and the Old Hare blended whisky, as well as seasonal releases such as Sankt Claus. It is mostly found in official bottlings.
