Ballindalloch distillery sits on the estate of Ballindalloch Castle in Speyside, home of the Macpherson-Grant family. It was built in converted farm buildings and began distilling in 2014, making it one of the region's newer distilleries.
The family describes it as a single estate distillery, with barley grown on the estate's own farmland. The spirit is condensed in traditional worm tubs, which tends to give a fuller, weightier character than modern condensers.
Because the whisky is still young, releases so far have been small and mostly single casks, from bourbon barrels and from Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, at ages from about 7 to 11 years. Buyers will also meet vintage releases such as the 2015 Vintage Inaugural Release and the Vintage Release 2016, several UK exclusives, and The Castle.
As a family-owned, low-volume producer, Ballindalloch is bottled officially and is rarely seen from independent bottlers.
