About Waterford

Waterford is an Irish single malt distillery in Waterford city, set up by Mark Reynier. It is known for exploring barley terroir, with whiskies made from the grain of individual Irish farms.

Country
Ireland

Waterford Distillery was founded by Mark Reynier, formerly of Bruichladdich on Islay, in a converted former brewery on the River Suir in Waterford city. Its idea is that barley, like grapes, carries the character of the place where it grows.

The distillery works with farmers across Ireland, including organic and biodynamic growers, and keeps each farm's barley separate through malting, distilling and maturation. The result is a single malt that can be compared farm by farm, much as a wine drinker compares vineyards.

The Single Farm Origin series is the heart of the range, with editions named after farms such as Sheestown, Ballykilcavan, Hook Head and Grattansbrook. The Peated releases, such as Ballybannon and Fenniscourt, use Irish peated barley, while Heritage bottlings like Hunter revive old barley varieties and Arcadian releases like Gaia focus on organic and biodynamic farming.

The Cuvée and the Micro Cuvée bottlings, such as Lómhar, bring together whisky from several farms. The edition numbers on the labels, such as 1.1 or 1.2, mark successive releases from the same farm or series.
