The Lindores Distilling Co. Ltd.

The Lindores Abbey Distillery stands at Newburgh in Fife, next to the ruins of Lindores Abbey. The abbey is tied to an entry in the Scottish Exchequer Rolls of 1494, which records malt sent to Friar John Cor to make aqua vitae. That entry is often cited as the earliest written mention of Scotch whisky, and the distillery builds its identity around it.

The distillery began producing spirit in late 2017, with the McKenzie Smith family behind the project. Its whisky is unpeated single malt, and the distillery places weight on barley grown locally in Fife.

Because the spirit is still young, the releases focus on cask influence. Buyers meet bourbon barrels, STR (shaved, toasted and re-charred) wine casks and red wine casks. In our catalogue these appear as The Exclusive Cask single casks, The Cask Of releases, Thiron, and the Friar John Cor Cask Strength Congregation batches.

Lindores Abbey is bottled almost entirely by the distillery itself, including single casks chosen for shops, clubs and whisky festivals. Independent bottlings are still rare.
